Subject: Federal funding to make chiropractic office handicap accessible

Question
Hello-

I am trying to find out about grants available for making our office handicap accessible.  As of now, our office has no entrance whatsoever that would be suitable for any handicapped clients.  We are not a non-profit, though seek to better serve our community by becoming more accessible to all those who seek chiropractic care!  Any information you might have regarding this would be wonderful!
Thank you,

Amanda Smith

Answer
Hi, Amanda:  Thanks for the question.  You might want to start by contacting your local United Way office to see if they can steer you in the right direction or know of where a grant might be available.  I would also check with your community's city manager's office or mayor's office to see if you might possibly fit into their Community Development Block Grant allocation.  I have seen grants being made available for the non-profit organizations in a given community because of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, but not for the private for-profit folks.  Best of Luck!
