Answer
Hi, Howard:  Thanks for the question.  First of all, a lot depends on what type of product or service you plan on marketing to the government.  If you are selling a product, you obviously need a manufacturing operation, a supplier of raw materials, laborers, inspection people, accounting people, packaging and shipping people.  At the bare minimum you will need a good computer system and access to high speed Internet.  You will also have to have an established track record of commercial sales.

The other way to go with a product is to become a distributor for a manufacturer that sells an item(s) that the government buys only through a distribution system.  Then you would only need someone who could respond to the government agency's RFQs or RFPs.  If you know the government system, then you know that you need to register with the government at:  www.ccr.gov.  For additional information, free bid leads and mil-specs, go to: www.aptac-us.org, page down to the map of the US and click on your state.  A list of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers (PTACs) will come up.  These folks are set-up to assist to do business with the federal government.  Good Luck!
