Expert: Rich Mihalic - 10/30/2009
Question I am the president of our local Little League baseball program. We are a non for provide group that provides baseball for all children in our community from age 5 thru 18. Our entire baseball complex was built on school property this includes 6 baseball diamonds, press box, concession, storage building, dug outs and Lights.
Our schools passed a levy to get money to build new schools with the building of the new schools we are loosing our entire complex they are building the new schools right on our baseball complex.
My question is there any kind of grants that we can get to help the local league rebuild a new complex for the kids in our community.
Our city officials don't seem to really care about anything except soccer. We have been granted space at one of the city parks but the city will not do anything funding wise.
Please give me some advice on where to turn for help.
Answer Hi, Jan: Thanks for the question. You can go to: www.grants.gov and search using the key words "grants for little league fields or complexes". Unfortunately, there is little out there in the form of grants on the federal level for this type of activity. Most of the support comes from the local communities in the form of business support in return for advertising and fund raisers. I would suggest contacting your local Chamber of Commerce to see if they could help you find interested businesses. Also contact the district office of your state representative to see if there is anything they are aware of at the state level to help you out.
Good Luck!
