Question
QUESTION: I've constructed the flying stars natal chart for the house, but the situation here is a bit complicated.  My grandmother is renting a portion of the house to her sister, and I am not allowed to make any changes in that part of the house--the SE, E, and NE sectors of the home.  It has been somewhat divided, so that she has her own kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom.  Originally, these areas were the two bedrooms, and the master bedroom, so I guess there was another remodel, about which I'd forgotten, which occurred when the house was occupied.

However, she does not have her own entrance into the house, and uses the same one as my grandmother.  I'm the one who uses a different entrance, which is in the SW, facing West.  I live in the converted garage, which has a sink **which has a screen in front of it, and guardians to keep the chi away**, but aside from that, it's pretty much a large bedroom.  I've done the best I can in my room, as far as feng shui is concerned, but the rest of the house is a different story.

My grandmother, although unfortunate and always ill, and depressed, does not believe that feng shui is anything more than silly superstition.  She sleeps in what is supposed to have been the dining room, in front of the sliding glass back door, under a bunch of exposed beams, and with her head pointed in the wrong direction.

So, with that said, it's pretty obvious that feng shui will not be implemented in this house.  I've spent two years begging her to listen to me about it, but she won't budge.

Since there is little to no feng shui that will be done inside the house, and since the house is somewhat divided into apartments (and yes, we are a family divided), will the fountain actually have an impact on anybody residing here?

And since the 5 star is in my grandmother's sister's living room, which is separate from the rest of the house, is it really near the 5 star, or is that side of the house, which is three rooms deep, but with no outside entrance, going to have it's own stars, based upon the date that it was partitioned from the rest of the house?

There is a compost heap in the 8 star.  But like I said, it's a feng shui nightmare.

Lillian Too suggests that the front yard be divided into the 9 squares of the Lo Shu, and she follows the same order as we would for the interior.  This seems incorrect, as I thought the Former Heaven Sequence was used for outside.

Anyway, I guess I really only have the one question, which is:
If there is no deliberate feng shui inside the house, will the waterfall on the outside really make a difference?  And if so, would it be to the whole household, or only to the resident of that side of the house?

Thanks again,

David

(And I promise, this is the final question---at least for a while)

ANSWER: Hi David,

The qi comes from the outside of a structure to the center point of the interior of the structure. So, yes, the water outside will make a difference on the inside. Yes it will make a difference to the whole household.

You see, feng shui can be complex but the principles are simple. Water on a bad water star will affect everyone in the structure. Water on a good water star will also affect everyone in the structure. Even if you don't implement much feng shui inside, if the exterior forms are good and are compatable with the stars, then you can still have good feng shui.

I hope this helps.

Good luck to you. I look forward to a positive update on your situation.

QUESTION: Hi Judy,

I discovered some structural problems with the house today, and based on that, and what I know about feng shui, I would really like to see my grandmother sell this house.  She has a reverse mortgage on it, so she would have to make back the mortgage money, what she paid for the house (she paid cash), and enough money to purchase a new one.

I'm hoping that you might be able to refer me to a feng shui master, here locally, which is San Antonio, Texas.  If they're located in Austin, that would also be ok.

I would like for them to actually be a master--somebody who trained under a master, who trained under a master, etc.  I know there are a lot of rip offs out there, who are just interior decorators, and know a bit about the Lo Shu, if that much.

But I need somebody who can help us with remedies for selling the house, as well as finding the perfect house for my grandmother.

If you have any referrals, I would greatly appreciate them.

Thank you, once again,

David

ANSWER: Hi David,

Joyce McDavid is a Feng Shui Master in San Antonio. Go to www.astro-fengshui.com and click on practitioners. Her information is available there.

Thank you for your question.

QUESTION: Thanks for the referral.  I've contacted Joyce, and we've come to the simple conclusion that I need to learn flying stars, and do what I can to correct the home.  I've taken measurements of all of the inside walls now, and I'm almost done with my blueprint, which is exactly to scale.  The huge problem is that my grandmother rents part of the house to her sister.  I hadn't taken the measurements in that area until tonight, after two days of discussing the issue with my grandmother, and finally discussing it with her sister.

I'm just about done reading the Idiot's Guide, and since I'm familiar with the 5 elements, and their three cycles, as well as with form, I'm finding the reading easy.  So, the huge problem with her sister's portion of the house, is that she has it set up so strangely, and has painted the walls such intense colours, that it would take a ton of work just to get her area under control.

Both of them have 3 times more furniture than the rooms can hold, and although they're willing to let go of some of it, and allow me to move stuff around; and although I could paint the walls a more neutral colour, and have them re-do everything, I just don't think I have the energy within myself to make all of those modifications.  Further, I would have to constantly be watching and trying to change their living habits (such as keeping clutter at bay, and trying to remain out of annually bad areas), which, combined with the modifications, I surely won't have the energy to do.

So, my only alternative is to separate myself, and my living space from theirs.  I have my own entrance to the outside, as well as one to the inside.  If I open all of my windows and doors, take everything out of the room, burn incense, sage, ring bells, clap my hands, "move out," and "move back in"; and after "moving back in," I never enter the house through the door in my room, but rather only by leaving through my exterior door, walking around to the front door, knocking, and entering, will I have done all that is necessary to define the space I live in as my own apartment?

And if so, will I be using the same facing direction as that of the house, since it's the area of the most yang, as my facing direction?  Also, will it work in such a small room, or would I have to put up walls to define the guas?  Actually, it's a converted garage, so it's not such a small room, but still small to divide into 9 smaller rooms.  I'm sure that would be ridiculous.

But this house is like a combination between a black hole, and the black plague.  I feel (and intuitively know) that if I don't somehow get the energy situation in this house under control, or at least within my own environment, I'll be stuck here forever!

I'm sorry for such a long question, but I'm desperate.  If I have to walk around the house and knock on her door to use the restroom, or to shower, I'll do it, if it means that I'll have control over the energy in my space, and not have to waste my energy trying to change the living habits of two old ladies.

My grandmother really doesn't take it seriously, and I feel bad about her depression and her illness (her sister is the same way, but I don't care about her, because she's mean and heartless), but my health has declined by about 85% in the year and a half that I've lived here!  I'm on medications for pains that I never had, and have appointments with different doctors and mental health practitioners at least three times a week.  I'm also jobless, because I've become bipolar since living here, and can't hold a job!  This is a small list, but as you can see, if I don't do something, I'll never get out.

So, if there's any information you have about what it would take to make this my own apartment, I would really appreciate it.  I don't have a kitchen, or my own bathroom in her (thank God, since it's a bedroom), but unfortunately, there's a sink.  I'm considering putting a wall up around the sink, and knocking the other wall down, which would put the sink in the laundry room, and out of mine.

Sorry.  I'll stop typing.  I'm just a bit freaked out.  From the "western/compass school, fake 'feng shui'," I already knew this house was bad, but now I'm really freaked out.  But I know there's hope, and I hope you might have advice.

Thank you,

David in San Antonio

Answer
Dear David,

Please give me the year of construction and the facing degree of the house.

Take a deep breath. Look for the opportunity - really, so the qi can help bring you the goodness you seek.

There are always sectors that have to be dealt with. Usually they can be dealt with in a very simple manner.

You can start with a chiming clock to calm some of the frenetic qi.

Thanks for your questions.
