Question
Hi,
My Sister has a number of health problems.......fibromyalgia, diabetes, lupus. She is constantly in a lot of pain. All her Doctors are really doing is giving her pain medicine. She is in the hospital now and again, they can't find out what's really going on. Do you know of any research or Doctors(Specialists) that could possibly help me? I am trying to gather as much info as I can. Also, she has been trying to get social security, but they keep denying her! Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank You in advance for your time and help.

Answer
Hi...if you feel your sister is not getting the right kind of treatment, best to contact your nearest teaching hospital...and since she has two conditions that are 'rheumatic' in nature, ask for a consult with someone in the Rheumatology department. Call first...and ask first if there is someone who treats fibromyalgia and lupus aggressively. That way, you don't waste your time with doctors who do not treat fibro.

As far as SS disability is concerned, best to IMMEDIATELY get an attorney who specializes in SS Disability...it is nearly impossible these days to do the SS disability route alone. They legally cannot charge more than 25% of back payments if she is approved...but it is WELL worth it in the long run. And be prepared for at least a year or more as far as the timeframe to get approved...that's why I say immediately consult a SS Disability specialist attorney. Do not wait.

I wish you all the best!
Joy
