Fibromyalgia - fibro-seizure

Expert: Kathleen Lewis - 9/17/2009

Question
Good Day Dr. Lewis: I have many questions but will start with one: Can fibromyalgia cause seizures by itself? Can sudden withdrawal from opoids cause seizure? I have had severe Fibro for more than eleven years (surely before that too) but I started having migraines about six(?) years ago and I have been on Guaifenesin treatment for about four years with some good results, but not near enough tho resume any kind of "normal" life. I am unable to work. Documentation is also very difficult to obtain untill one "knows the ropes" I guess because not many understand. Not the gov't who would allow me to live under a bridge before acknowledging. I have 95% of the symptoms in the book by St.Amand and C. Marek called "what your doctor might not be telling you about Fibromyalgia". When my dr. finally diagnosed me I had lost two jobs and she stated: I did not want to diagnose you with this because I did not know how to treat it. Yes, she said she knew about it from med. school. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Answer
Hi Charley,
I am so sorry you have suffered so much and been so frustrated in your attempts to get help!

I have never heard of FM causing seizures and I don't know about seizures when coming off opiods.  So many things can cause seizures and there are so many different kinds of seizures.  This is a serious condition that needs to be evaluated and treated by a neurologist over time ... not just a one time visit ... I know that is frustrating!  You need to keep a record of any seizures on a month at a glance calendar to document what is happening to you!  Any history around the seizure is important!

To get more info on FM, check out http://www.myalgia.com. The website might help you document you condition.

I am afraid that I haven't been much help to you.  You need a lawyer to help you interface the medical and legal requirements to get the help that you need from the government.  You seem to have numerous medical problems that may add to your physical limitations causing your need for assistance.  Many lawyers will help you with no charge until your claim is decided!

God bless and take care!

JOY{;-)AWE!
