Question
how can i find a local doctor that understands or currently treats FM sufferers? my GP is never availible and the numerous sceptical locum doctors are a nightmare.i have had a full diagnosis by a rhumatologist who is sending me onto a pain clinic but i need a local GP i can talk to and uderstands how debilitating it is.the lack of support so far is depressing me.i use the little energy i can saver taking care of my small son with help from family that is and returning to my job is just simply out of the question when i can barely blow dry my own hair,i have been claiming ESA to hold the fort money wise but am having to provide new sick notes every few weeks which is really stressing me out as it is a new doctor each time who does not know me and never seems to know about or beleive in FM,i feel on trail each time i go and the anxciety it creates is making me worse.please help.amy.

Answer
Hi Amy,
I am sorry that you are experiencing so little support from your medical community while having to deal with FM!

I'm not sure of your referral system over there but the first suggestion that comes to my mind is to ask your rheumatologist and pain specialist to recommend a GP that they know understands and treats FM patients.  You may have a FM support group in your area that would be familiar with the doctors sympathetic to the plight of FM patients.  If you have any other docs you might ask them, too.  Do you know anyone with FM who might know of a GP.

I don't know if this has any help or not.  If there is  rheumatology society in your area, they might have some suggestions?

God bless and take care!
