Subject: FM Typical Responses

Question
Hi Joyce.  I have been diagnosed with Sjogrens Disease and FM by one Dr. or another but I am finding that nobody wants to treat this - I have been passed from Prmiary to Rhuematoid to Pshyc to Neuro repeatedly.  It seems that most are not willing to treat me and then the others act as if I am only in this for "drugs" which offends me greatly.  Are these typical responses that you hear a lot of from other sufferers?

Guidance please.

Kim

Answer
Yes, Kim, this is a common problem, although these days getting less common as fibro is becoming more 'accepted'. The trick is to find docs that treat fibro aggressively (try your nearest teaching hospital...they're generally more up on the latest things there), and ASK if the doc treats fibro before you make a appointment. Very important. I went to 8 doctors before my diagnosis in 1993...I expect people go to an average of 3 now. But, again, the aggravation can be cut down if you interview the doc first.

Sorry I don't have the magic answer for this one...getting properly DXed and treated is one of the hardest things about fibro :(

Best,
Joy
