Question
I have been working on my axle for almost a year now, and I still haven't landed it. I can get full rotation and everything, but i just cannot land on one foot. I have a coach also and she says that im almost there. But we dont know why I cant just land on one foot. Im 14 years old skating for 8 years.

Answer
Hi,
Axel is tough!
Work on the landing exercises.  Maybe the harness could give you the feeling.  Also ask your coach about starting double sal.  Sometimes this can help your axel.
Perhaps you are a bit afraid...get some good pads and go for it.  You will need to fall to learn this on one foot!
Good luck,
Dianne

Expertise

I can answer questions about figure skating, choreography, ISI or USFSA. Also questions about competing (my Olympic experience or your own competition). I`m a National referre for ISI. Recently I also have been appointed a National Technical Specialist for US Figure Skating. But remember I am not your substitute for a coach! They can see what you are doing! To correct or instruct you on manuevers is really not what I want to do.
