Question
Hi,
I am 14 and have been doing ballet for 9 years and 4 years of pointe. I want to start figure skating. Will my ballet backround help me? I also wanted to make sure I wouldn't have to stop doing pointe.

Thank you

I don't plan on intensive training may twice a week

Answer
Hi,
You will be able to learn fast because of your dance background.  Jumps and spins will be hard due to your "spotting".  skaters don't do that.  But you can continue pointe and skate.  Your main worry is time.  Bothe activities demand alot of practice!
Good luck,
Dianne

Expertise

I can answer questions about figure skating, choreography, ISI or USFSA. Also questions about competing (my Olympic experience or your own competition). I`m a National referre for ISI. Recently I also have been appointed a National Technical Specialist for US Figure Skating. But remember I am not your substitute for a coach! They can see what you are doing! To correct or instruct you on manuevers is really not what I want to do.
