Question I am doing a science fair project on arm position in axels. For some reason the jumps actually went farther with my arms above my head than on my chest like they normally are. Can you tell me why that is? I would really appreciate it for my research paper!
Answer Hi Sarah:
I think the answer to your question relies on one of ole Newton's laws of physics: F = ma or force equals mass times acceleration. By moving your arms over your head you are accelerating your arms more than when moving them to your chest. This would create more force which translates to more lift (vertical vector).
I'm not a physicist but that's what I would say.
Good luck on your paper,
Bruce
