Question Dr. Bruce,
I have been working on my axel for 5-6 months now and after a lot of pain one day I landed it consistently. Imagine my shock when the next day, I could barely land even one! It was not only extremely disheartening but as a result my self-esteem plummeted and I wasn't even able to work on anything else! Is this normal?
Answer Hi Samantha:
You need to hang in there. Learning, much like healing, is non-linear and can fluctuate as you move to the next level. Even the best skaters have had good and bad days. Just watch any major competition and you will see skaters falling on jumps that they could do in their sleep.
Also, you want to keep in mind that if you landed the axel once, you are fully capable of landing it again.
I hope today is a good day for you...
Bruce
