Question
Hi,
My daughter is almost 8 years old just past Pre-Preliminary tests and now is working on Preliminary level. She has trouble to get the rotation to land backward on the Flip jump. When she in the air her legs is not crossed and landed forward two footed with her right shoulder down. What is your suggestions on her Flip and maybe later when she learn to do the Lutz.
Thank you so much.

Answer
Hi,
Congratulations on passing!
Here in California most kids don't take the PP FS till they have an axel for competition.
For the flip she needs to be over her right side and right leg to land.  Free leg needs to be a bit crossed but not tight like doubles.  Think of a loop.  Remember the jump is from the skating leg not tap.  Her coach should be able to best correct her!
Good luck,
Dianne

Expertise

I can answer questions about figure skating, choreography, ISI or USFSA. Also questions about competing (my Olympic experience or your own competition). I`m a National referre for ISI. Recently I also have been appointed a National Technical Specialist for US Figure Skating. But remember I am not your substitute for a coach! They can see what you are doing! To correct or instruct you on manuevers is really not what I want to do.
