Figure Skating/Edges

Question
Hi Ms. DeLeeuw, I'm learning to do a crossover.  I start the left outside edge and when I lift the other foot off the ground, I am not maintaining the left outside edge.  The left foot comes back to a flat position when I'm on that leg only.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi,
This is a common problem when first learning this.  Try to adjust your lean.  Remember to always lean in to the circle when doing crossovers.  Practice skating left outside and just pushing with the right foot to the side/back.
Keep working on it!

Expertise

I can answer questions about figure skating, choreography, ISI or USFSA. Also questions about competing (my Olympic experience or your own competition). I`m a National referre for ISI. Recently I also have been appointed a National Technical Specialist for US Figure Skating. But remember I am not your substitute for a coach! They can see what you are doing! To correct or instruct you on manuevers is really not what I want to do.
