Figure Skating - help with axel

Expert: gary beacom - 10/21/2009

Question
My daughter has been trying to land her axel jump. She's been working on this for almost 4 months now but have only been on the jump harness a few times. She can do the rotation but somehow can't cross her legs in the air. Any ideas ? will spending more time on the harness help ? Thanks.

Answer
It is kind of scary to learn to cross the feet in the air, Jen, so having the security of a harness may help your daughter. It is also essential that she can do a back spin on an outside edge. This simulates the air position. Without actually seeing your daughter's axel, that is about all the advise I can give. I hope this helps.
Take care,
Gary
