Question I started skating as an adult about 2 years ago and cought initially some very entry levl boots, then in January 2008 changed to Riedell gold medallions as I started learning waltz jumps and salchow and toe loop. I have happily skated in them for a year now (probably about 3 times a week on average some weeks more some weeks less). Recently I have noticed they are creasing a little around the ankle on the outside of the boot..... does this mean the support is beginnign to go and how long can I realistically expect boots to last (I am 5 foot 7 and weigh about 130 pounds.. skate as stated above and am beginning to learn a single loop and flip a the moment). If this is the support, are there any other boots for about my level which may last a bit longer next time? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
Answer Hi,
Boots always crease unless they have a notch there to help you bend. You will notice loss of support all over when they are broken down. A year is still good for that level of boot. If you go up in quality they will last longer. and from what you say you are doing you need a better boot. Every brand has all the levels of skates. Get what fits your foot best. The more you spend the more you get in padding and features. Just be careful of he super stiff...you may never break them in!
Good luck,
Dianne
I can answer questions about figure skating, choreography, ISI or USFSA. Also questions about competing (my Olympic experience or your own competition). I`m a National referre for ISI. Recently I also have been appointed a National Technical Specialist for US Figure Skating. But remember I am not your substitute for a coach! They can see what you are doing! To correct or instruct you on manuevers is really not what I want to do.
