Figure Skating/Blades

Question
I have a 9 year old daughter who weighs 50 Lbs and is currently a pre-preliminary skater (has her axel – working on doubles).  She needs new blades – and we are getting contradictory advice.  Her coach has recommended the gold seal blade and her peers seem to all skate with the gold seal or pattern 99 blade – but the pro shop guys suggest the coronation ace blade.  We are leaning with the gold seal.  My question is if we get the gold seal – even though others say its overkill – will she have problems with it?  It seems like the coronation ace blade is a good all around freestyle blade – but if we go with the gold seal – will she be worse off?

Cost is not an issue.

Answer
Hi,
Always listen to your coach!  Gold Seal and Pattern 99 have been around forever for a reason.  I have my students use the best they can at your level.  You will be fine!
If you are still in dobt get your coache's reasons for the upgrade, then you can argue with more knowledge.
Good luck,
Dianne

Expertise

I can answer questions about figure skating, choreography, ISI or USFSA. Also questions about competing (my Olympic experience or your own competition). I`m a National referre for ISI. Recently I also have been appointed a National Technical Specialist for US Figure Skating. But remember I am not your substitute for a coach! They can see what you are doing! To correct or instruct you on manuevers is really not what I want to do.
