Figure Skating - triple/quad jumps

Expert: gary beacom - 8/1/2009

Question
Do you use the dartfish technique to teach triples/quads?

Are you coming to Toronto in the near future?

Janis C.

Answer
I don't have dartfish, unfortunately, Janis, as I do not coach full-time, but I am familiar with it as a very useful and scientific analytical tool. In fact, I endorse dartfish and its developer for figure skating, Chris Conte, in my book GARY BEACOM'S VADE MECUM. I encourage skaters to achieve sufficient height on a jump before trying to add a rotation. Dartfish does this quantatively. By now I can tell by looking at a jump if there is time for another rotation, but dartfish my have a credibility advantage over my eye in coaching. Some skaters think they can do a triple just by trying and trying over and over in spite of my assessment of insufficient height on the double!
Anyway, I am hoping to make a trip to Toronto soon, maybe even at the end of the month. Why do you ask?
