About Jamey Key
Expertise
NEW and INTERMEDIATE USERS. WHAT CAN FILEMAKER PRO DO FOR ME? I have been using FileMaker products for over 10 years and have basic knowledge in all areas of FileMaker database set up and use. I`m not prepared to answer questions about complex situations or calculations but can help beginners and intermediate users set up and use FileMaker databases.

Experience
Have been using FileMaker since 1989 in our business. We have 10 users on the network who use these databases every day. Our largest databases have had over 30,000 records at one time. In 1995 one of my files was chosen as "Most Unique Database" in a contest sponsored by Claris, maker of FileMaker. Recently I have developed a set of files for new computer system installed at our church.

Subject: unable to tab into field

Question
Using FMP 9 Advanced on a PC

In layout, I have set a tab order, however, when I go to browse and put my cursor in the first field and hit tab, it skips over the assigned second field and goes directly to the third field.  The field I want to tab into is a date field with a drop down calendar.  I have tried clearing all tabs and starting over, but get the same result.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hello Pam;

Ask yourself these questions:

Do you have access privileges to edit that field?
Is the behavior of the field set to allow you to enter it?

The only other thing I can think of is you have a corrupt layout.  Ive seen this happen before.  If the other two things dont work out, create a new blank layout and add fields including your date field and see if you can tab into it.  Then you can slowly add the other objects until you replicate the existing layout.  Be sure to test after you add each object.

If you still cant get it to work, email me directly and I will help you.
