Question -
I am a  80 year old retired dentist. I have had zero debt since 1965.Recently Bellsouth charged me over three hundred dollars, which I will not pay, for phone calls that were not mine.
Is there a reason I should get a credit report on myself.? If so which company do you recommend>

Hal: I can't tell if we are opening Pandora's box or not.

ALL financially prudent people should carry REASONABLE debt
just as they should brush their teeth daily.  ONE is essental for your mouth, the other just as essential for
your financial health [as long as the cost of the debt
is less than the return on the invested dollars!]

NO One wanted to go to the dentist while u were a practitioner; they went cause they had too.

U can fight the behemouth or you can pay them.
THEY love to be loose with your cash and their control
roles.

my suggestion; casually tell them that you are not
responsible for the calls.  U are responsible for
calls A and B or whatever but not others.

USUALLY, they will credit or your bill or eliminate the
others immediatley--but spend very little time on that
since you are retired, trying to relax and enjoy and
you have earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in your
lifetime.   YOU have wasted more than that overcharge
on fun stuff you have long forgotten.

YOUR CALL.

thanks for asking me

[i hope you have a mangement company and at least $10 in
real estate investments]

Answer
Hal;

I hope u laugh at this, but your  response above reminds me of the parody of the management course that depicted
a man visiting a doctor's office and complained about
a left bruised knee.  WHILE there, his right leg had a bone
sticking out and blood flowing freely down his leg, and he
had sores and bruises all over his body.

REGARDLESS of his desired claim of a bruised knee, the doctor is going to focus on the more serious afflictions.

YOU have more serious concerns but you did not bring
them to my attention.

[we could say that the doctor's room patient is a cousin
of EVil Knivel, the dare devil stuntman?]

NOW that i have a more full picture of the situation--I will give you a different remedy.

CAll the District Attorney--upon the DA's advice, cancel your phone.

YOU have a mass felonly [felonies] being committed against your state and you.   BUGS will be planted, and the prison
monitored for there are "plants" at both ends.

SOMEONE at your end is using perhaps a black box or
a phone device and thinks you are a dummy and will
tolerate it.

LET the police handle it.

GET A cell phone for now.

ignore your land line.  call your relatives or friends
re the number change.

thanks for getting back to me with an update.

[u are not the only one who dislikes debt.  The FEW
PEOPLe I HAVE COUNSELED who also dislike debt are just
like u but have rotten teeth; all we can do is advise
people, nothing more!]
