Question In order to file my 2007 income tax return I need to know the purchase date and purchase price I paid for ALLTEL stock. However, I acquired these shares in a round about way. SPRINT had a spin off in 1996 to 360 (degrees) which then merged into ALLTEL in 1998. Who do I contact to obtain this information?

Your best bet would be to contact the investor relations department at AllTel. Most public companies have an investor relations department. I did a quick search, and found this link:
