Financial Stocks - capital stock question

Expert: Paul Henneman - 4/10/2008

Question
First of all Mr. Henneman I must say that i am completely ignorant when it comes to any sort of stock knowledge.  I am hoping you can guide me in the proper direction.  My mother inherited a capital stock in the Ticonderoga Golf Corporation from her mother in 1977.  It was one of the original stocks in the company purchased years before.  The stock certificate reads capital stock $25000.  We are interested in finding out the value of the stock at this time as she would like to sell it.  Can you help us?

Answer
Meg,
  Thank you for your question!
The only real thing to do in your situation is to try to find the company, and contact them directly. I did a quick search, and they do not appear to be a public company on any of the major stock exchanges. But, they could still trade off the major exchanges, or have been acquired and trade under a different name, or your certificate most likely relates to ownership in a private company.
I did a google search and did find references to a "Ticonderoga Golf Corporation". See this link:

http://www.ticonderogany.com/members/ticonderogagolf.html

So the company appears to still be active. I would start by either writing them an email, or giving them a call. You probably will be bumped around a bit while they try to figure out how to address your inquiry, so be persistent.

I hope this gets you started, please do not hesitate to follow up with me if I can be of any additional service,

Sincerely,
Paul Henneman
