I have a share of Marriott Corporation Stock that was given to me in 1973.
How to I figure out its value and how do I negotiate it.
Stock brokers are turning me away and the Marriott Corporation will not talk to me unless I make a reservation.
Can you help me?
Thank you.
Answer Thank you for your question!
You are on the right track in that you need to speak with Marriott about your share of stock. It sounds like you may have called their customer service number, where they take reservations. They should have directed you to what I suggest below, but I have never had good service at Marriott so I can unfortunately understand how you did not get the information needed.
Every publicly traded company has an investor relations department, that is where you want to contact to find out how much your share is worth. Here is a link to the contact information on their investor relations page of the website: http://investor.shareholder.com/mar/contactus.cfm
Currently Marriott trades at about $25. However, figuring out the value of the share is not that simple. The stock has likely gone through splits, where the price and number of shares is adjusted and this could have happened more than once since 1973. For example, there appears to have been a 2 for 1 split in June of 2006, meaning one share would turn into two shares.
Definitely call, email, or write to the investor relations department in the above link, and they should be able to provide the exact information on how much it is worth, and options regarding what you can do with it.
I hope that this helps, please do not hesitate to follow up with me if I can be of any additional service,
Sincerely,
Paul Henneman
