Question
I am trying to figure out the price per share by looking at the financial reports in yahoo finance and in the SEC 10K filings but I am not familiar with which numbers to use? I need to get the amounts for two companies (Walmart and Target) for the following: price per share, market price per share for 2005 and 2006

Answer
Anne,
   Thank you for your question!
Yes you are right that this information can be found on Yahoo or google finance, but you don't need to go through the effort of looking at financial reports or sec filings. I use http://google.finance.com enter the ticker symbol or company name at the top to bring up that stocks page with the chart. You will have to change the length of time that the chart displays, you can do this right on top of the chart. I changed it to 5 years.
You can then use your mouse to move over the line in the chart, and on the top of the chart it will display the date and stock price for that point on the line.  The price will be different depending upon exactly when in 2005 and 2006 you are looking for.  This will give you the price per share on an exact day.
You mention in your question that you are looking for two data points, price per share and market price per share. This is same thing, unless you are looking for something like earnings estimates or other data points? If you do need something other than the above, please do not hesitate to follow up with me.
I hope that this helps, please do not hesitate to follow up with me if I can be of any additional service,

Sincerely,
Paul Henneman
