Subject: Joint tenants on stock

Question
Can stock owned jointly be listed as "Joe Smith OR Betty Smith JT TEN" or is there some legal reason to have it issued "Joe Smith AND Betty Smith JT TEN"?

Answer
You could inquire at the broker dealer how to change this over to another format. There are acutally joint tent. and tent. in common. This will change the use of OR to AND, and back. You should have the broker dealer send you the finer points of why you would like one or the other. This has more to do with signatures and transfering at death.
