Question I had two finches in a cage and added one recently. The new finch is all puffed out now for three straight days . Is he ill or is he afraid of the other birds or what?
Answer Hello Ray,
This shouldn't be too much of a concern- so long as your new finch is eating and drinking normally. It's quite normal for finches or other birds to puff up, as it makes them look bigger and more impressive to others, especially in unfamiliar territory.
It will probably take about a week for your new finch to settle down, although of course, it is best to keep an eye out for any unusual behaviour, eg fighting or loss of appetite.
