First off, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question, which is more like a dilemma.
I am a 38 Y/0 man, who feels very confused about what to do with his future. Up until November of last year, I was employed as an Outside Sales Rep. for a blind manufacturer. I enjoyed my job, and the freedom it offered. Like millions of others, I lost my job.
For the time being, I have been passing my time sending out resumes (never getting even one response pos. or neg.) and taking a couple of classes at the local Technical
school. They don't really interest me, but it gets me out of the house.
At this point, I keep getting this overwhelming feeling that I should be doing more with my life, and feel like it is passing me by. I have finances available for career re-training, or higher education, but do not know if this is the right choice. If it was, I wouldn't even know what to pursue, as I do not feel a certain calling.
It is hard to explain how lost I feel, as it seems like I need a guidance counselor or something. I apologize if my letter is somewhat ambiguous, but I guess the question revolves around how to figure out what path to take.
Thank You for any assistance.
Jason Schwartz
Answer Hi, of course I don't know where you are located other than the USA. BUT I took a shot to see what was up with blind manufacturers (and I assume you mean the window covering kind) and found that there is actually a company for sale. You say that you have money for career retraining or higher education but my question is -- did you consider buying a company of your own Shutter and Blind Manufacturer - business for sale, Houston, Texas ...Owner says bring offer.... With over 25 years experience, this is one of Houston's oldest, and most experineced and respected shutter companies. And here is the exact link: www.bizbuysell.com/listing-information-q421557.html -
Obviously you could go for re-training but at 38 years old and as an experienced outside sales rep -- you might consider owning your own company even if it is not in the blind/window covering arena. Consider going to some of the small biz expos in your area. Join your Chamber of Commerce. Come on -- you're an outgoing kind of guy. My guess is you know how to use a computer-- otherwise how did you find me? And take a look at my two books -- SUCCESSFUL RECAREERING -- which is available on Amazon.com and http://tinyurl.com/visionboardamazon which shows how to envision your future with your right brain -- (the intuitive side) not the left (the analytical side).
And of course you're welcome to write to me directly at joyceschwarz@gmail.com and to sign up for my own career consultign/career transition services -- I do them via phone & the web and they are 3 (hour long) sessions for $500 and I take VISA/MC.
Let me know what's up! You've got a whole lifetime ahead of you so there is no RIGHT OR WRONG MOVE HERE! js.
