AboutMrs. Priscilla Lyons Expertise I have time for you. The Bible has been my guiding light for
most of the 56 years of my life. My missionary parents in Brazil kindled
a love for God`s Word by their example and their love for truth. The
Lord has blessed my husband and me with responsible, independent
children who love and serve the Lord and are our best friends. I would
enjoy discussing any subject or problem from a Biblical perspective.
Question Hi i am 25 and am very confused with life in the moment, I feel like I have no hopes for the future or plans or aims. I have a degree in Biotehnology and graduated in 2005. Then I went to Australia for 2 years and met the guy of my dreams he was swedish. My visa for australia ran out and I had to come home and he still has 1 year over there. We had a really goood relationship and I wanted to marry him we were all set to meet up in a year when he finished travelling. THen he dumped 3 days after I arrived home, he said it would be too difficult as he wants to travel alone for a few years.
I am totally devastated and feel my life has no direction or plans or aims. I am now in scotland sleeping on a friends couch and have no job, 4 weeks ago I was in love on a beach in australia how do I get a life plan back im getting depressed and gaining weight?? help!!
Answer Dear Debs,
Thank you for writing and allowing me to share some Good News with you. In fact, your discouragement is beneficial when it comes to long-lasting hope for the very best future.
Most people are too busy or too satisfied with themselves to consider what happens after this temporary physical life. Even 100 years of this life is very short compared to eternity, but we were created with a purpose for these 100 years or less, as the case may be, as well as for eternity.
That purpose according to Genesis 1:26 is to reflect God's image as we manage His creation. But most people, as I mentioned before, are more interested in reflecting their own image and managing the things of this world to their own interests, not God's. Not being perfect as God is, we come up short for eternity (Romans 3:23), and even this life lacks depth.
But when we realize we have a need, we're usually more willing to consider how God has provided for that need. I am like you in that my relationship with my love, my husband, affects me more than anything else. God made us that way from the beginning (read Genesis 1:27-28, 2:22-24, 3:16, etc.) to illustrate the spiritual connection He purposed for us with Himself (Ephesians 5:31-32). So the real, satisfying relationship which my relationship with my husband serves to illustrate, is the intimate, trusting relationship I have with my Creator. God living in and through me (Colossians 1:27), is the eternal hope and satisfaction of fulfilling my destiny as I explore His wonderful creation. God's all-consuming love and interest in me gives me an eternal outlook that no rejection from anyone can take away. God's strength gets me through the exercises (for my weight and health) that I hate. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me." Scientifically speaking, God provides endorphins as a reward for healthy exercising, which energizes us to accomplish other things as well.
How do you get that relationship with God? You admit that your sins separate you from our perfect Creator, our Source of life. You accept the payment for your sins that God the Son (Jesus Christ) provided through His death and resurrection. You ask God to forgive your sins and be your Lord, your King. Romans 6:23 "The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Matthew 6:33 "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (that you need) shall be added unto you."
I'm praying that you entrust your young, filled-with-potential life to the One Who knows you and loves you better than you do yourself and better than anyone else in the world can know and love you. I'd love to hear from you again anytime.
Sincerely,
Priscilla
