Fine Art/Are these worth the cost of a professional appraisal?

Question
Dear Dan,

My sibs and I inherited three framed prints, Picasso's "Dream," limited edition color lithograph, signed & numbered in pencil (12/500) from "Collection Domaine Picasso," a Miro (title?), stamp signed lithograph print and a Chagall ("Romeo & Juliet"), stamp signed lithograph print.  We are wondering whether the cost of an appraisal would equal or surpass the value of these prints, or whether they (the Picasso in particular) are worth an appraisal.  I know that none of these is an original.  There is no provenance available; the Picasso has a "certificate of authenticity" but no seller's name. Thank you for whatever light you can shed on this.

Answer
Plate sighed works are usually afters or knocks offs. If you have authorized plate signed works, you are most likely still in the low end art market.  They would have to be examined by an expert and of course there are fees involved.  I am an art broker and have sold Picasso, but use an outside service to authenticate.

Expertise

I can answer questions about Salvador Dali. While I cannot do FREE APPRAISALS, I might be able to help you sell your works. I can also help with Chagall, Miro, Picasso and other 20th Century Masters.

Questions about a type of art or medium can be answered with one response in most cases. Technical issues are easier to deal with than specifics about an artist. If you need help finding values or history on an artist, it will probably involve research that can sometimes take hours to complete. If you have more than one image to send, I will give you an alternate email address as this system cannot handle multiple images.
