Mystery Pastel
Mystery Pastel
Hello Daniel -

I would greatly appreciate your help in assisting me in identifying this old

It was my Grandfathers and he lived in Toronto his entire life. It may well
have been passed to him from his Father who may have bought it in Canada
or Ireland.

There is a signature, but I can read it (attached).

If you could help me identify the artist - I would be very grateful.

All the best -

Dave Dunford
Kitchener, Ontario

Dear Dave, I doubt very much if your pastel is identifiable, it is more of a decorative item. It was very popular at the turn of the 19th/20th century for people to own these as they were only a few dollars. Look up the pastel artist William Henry Chandler (1854-1928), as an example, he had a large staff of artists who painted pastel landscapes for him and signed his name. What you have is of this type.
