Fine Art/Currier and Ives

QUESTION: ARe you able to tell me the value of a Currier and Ives lithograph -- and if not, who could I contact?  I live in Houston, Texas. Thank you.

ANSWER: Values vary depending on a number of factors. Is it the first printing or a reprint? Currier & Ives images are some of the most seen on greeting cards etc. Also, it has to be examined for any watermarks or stamps from the printer/publisher etc. I doubt you will find a Currier & Ives expert in Texas, maybe but it seems to be more of an East Coast niche. There were a few specific dealers in New York that specialized in Currier & Ives, they have closed and passed away some time ago.

QUESTION: What would you suggest I do to find the value and whether or not it is a first printing? Is there a book?

The type of book that would have that info is probably very expensive. Art industry reference books can cost thousands. Send me images via email. Detailed images of the front, back and the signature. Include any history, title, size etc. If I think I can help, I will get back to you. You might also include a ph# so we can discuss it.

I can answer questions about Salvador Dali. While I cannot do FREE APPRAISALS, I might be able to help you sell your works. I can also help with Chagall, Miro, Picasso and other 20th Century Masters.

Questions about a type of art or medium can be answered with one response in most cases. Technical issues are easier to deal with than specifics about an artist. If you need help finding values or history on an artist, it will probably involve research that can sometimes take hours to complete. If you have more than one image to send, I will give you an alternate email address as this system cannot handle multiple images.
