Fine Art/ciappa oil

I have an old oil painting of trees, a stream and mountains in the background. It is signed "ciappa" in red in the lower left corner and is in a frame with a brass plate with the name "CIAPPA".  I see no dates or other identifying features but it is a very nice landscape.  Where might I obtain more information on the painting?

It could be by Giovanni Ciappa - but the brass plate doesn't tell us anything as this could easily be set afterwards. If it is by Giovanni it is probably worth about 400 USD.

To know more I would bring it to your local auction house or gallery
