Fine Art - sketch by Windberg

Expert: Dolly D Headley - 6/26/2009

Question
Hi,

I have an 11 x 14 framed sketch by Dalhart Windberg. Most of his work I've found online looks like oil paintings, but this one is more like a charcoal sketch of a landscape with a windmill and water cistern on a hillside. His name is in the corner, but it's a reproduction. It was purchased at a gallery in Georgetown, TX quite a few years ago. Any ideas of its worth? Thanks very much!

Answer
Dear Kim,

I hope you are doing well. Since Dalhart has not produced any original prints (etchings etc), I assume you have an offset lithograph copy after one of his original drawings.

The value on his work varies from one image to another, depending on the aesthetic value to the overall collector market. I would only be guessing as to what your print would sell for on the secondary market. Other of his prints have sold from $45-150. The higher range is for limited editions with hand signatures. I hope this information is helpful.

Kind regards,
Dolly
