I recently purchased a framed artwork of Marc Chagall at an estate auction. After researching extensively, I cannot find any information on this particular piece. There is a signature on the bottom right-hand side of the art. There is a boxed-in area underneath stating: Marc Chagall; b. Vitebsk, Russia 1887; The Open Window - also in 4 other languages, French, German, Italian, and Spanish; (Oil on canvas... listing dimensions; and then finally, Private Collection.
Also underneath the artwork under the left-hand side: Published by New York Graphic Society Ltd. Right-hand side: Printed in Italy.
Two questions: print or lithograph? How do I find the value?
Thank you very much.

Answer
The New York Graphic Society sold low end art. A lithogrpah is a print, it just depends on what type of lithograph it is. An offset is low end like a poster, an original lithorgraph involves more hand working. If the signature was photographed along with the total image, then it is not a signed print. If you have a hand signature, that is another matter.

Expertise

I can answer questions about Salvador Dali. While I cannot do FREE APPRAISALS, I might be able to help you sell your works. I can also help with Chagall, Miro, Picasso and other 20th Century Masters.

Questions about a type of art or medium can be answered with one response in most cases. Technical issues are easier to deal with than specifics about an artist. If you need help finding values or history on an artist, it will probably involve research that can sometimes take hours to complete. If you have more than one image to send, I will give you an alternate email address as this system cannot handle multiple images.
