Question
THE BIRTH OF THE FLAG
THE BIRTH OF THE FLAG
I have a print titled "THE BIRTH OF THE FLAG" It is very old with no dates and all it says at the bottom of picture is "THE BIRTH OF THE FLAG-Painting By Henry Mosler" in the bottom right corner is has COPR,The KN and that is all I can read because there is a piece that came off but I have that piece in the frame. On the left corner there is another piece that came off also but the print is whole with picture.it is about 9 1/2 "x 12 i think. I don't want to take the print out of the frame cause it is old and so is the frame. I have more pictures I can  send  to you if someone would like to help me find out what this print is worth.

Answer
Hi Mo, although I am not familiar with this artist, I have found some similar works http://www.artnet.com/artist/698005/gustave-henry-mosler.html . Auction records show occasional sales of paintings and prints by Henry Mosler in the low 1000's. This print that you have is really a very beautiful piece. And yes, do not take it out of the frame as it can possibly change the colors of the piece within hours of being exposed to the air.

I recommend contacting Christies http://christies.com/ or Sothebys http://www.sothebys.com/ auction houses, as they are the two largest auction houses in the world. They may have an expert who knows this piece. If there is one near where you live, you can also take it to a Bonham's Valuation Day http://www.bonhams.com/cgi-bin/public.sh/pubweb/publicSite.r?sContinent=EUR&scre . I hope this helps, and good luck to you!

Sincerely,

Andrew Evans
