Fine Art/Chagall print
I own Marc Chagall lithography for many many years. However,I do not know anything about it's value.
It is called Figures with Bull and dimensions are approx. 19,5" X 15,5". The paper looks very old, and there is a water mark on the upper left corner, that reads: "Ceci est une reproduction" and underneat Marc Chagal.Another water mark is on the bottom right and reads Richard de Bas, and right abowe heart shape and the year that can not be read.
On the lower left is a signature Chagall in pencil.
Any sugestion is appretiated.
Hello Una, as you probably know "ceci est une reproduction" is franšais for "this is a reproduction". These reproductions, depending on when they were made, vary greatly in value. If it was not made by Chagall's hand or under his direction, then it is worth far less.
As far as your specific piece, I cannot find it in Charles Sorlier's catalog raisonnÚs (he was one of Chagall's biggest publishers), nor are there any auction records that I can find. Yet somehow this website displays it http://www.artresourcegroup.com/work.aspx?wid=689
. It does not, however, mention the publisher or where it is documented.
This is a very extensive (if not complete) list of Chagall prints http://www.masterworksfineart.fr/catalogue/chagall.php
. Notice how these Chagall prints http://www.masterworksfineart.fr/inventory/chagall
detail where they are documented, as this is the primary means of appraising a piece, and justifying its authenticity. If you would like a more solid answer, I suggest contacting a fine art dealer near you http://www.ifaacertified.com/locate.html
. I hope this helps, and best of luck to you.
