Question
Dear Daniel,
I am seeking to buy a good book on Caravaggio, and would welcome your help.I want an edition which contains good reprodutions of his major works.
I have been often very disappointed when purchasing
books on Fine Art,and would welcome any suggestions you may have,
Yours sincerely,
         John Harvey.

Answer
Dear John, I have two books on Caravaggio. "Caravaggio and His Followers" by Richard E. Spear, Oberlon College, publ. Cleveland Museum of Art,1971. This has mostly b/w illustrations, good info covering the artist's millieu. I think what you really want would be "Caravaggio" by Alfred Moir, publ.Harry N. Abrams, N.Y., 1982 & 1989, excellent text, b/w illustrations, and 40 beautiful full color plates. I am sure they are both out of print. You might search www.abebooks.com
Cordially,
Dan
