Fine Art/Identifying artist in oil painting

Question
I have a painting from my grandmother's house I always enjoyed as a child - it is of three owls done in a slight abstract with the initials "hug" at the bottom.  It is on a canvas, but probably not an original since the surface is smooth.

How do I go about finding the artist?  I'm curious to know where it came from.

Thank you!

Answer
I did a quick search, but if it was an original, chances are it will be next-to impossible to locate.
Here are a few that I found:

Tough search, but emailing images and a further description might be in order.
