Fine Art/Marc Chagall

Question
Hello sir,

I recently purchased two lithographs at Park West at Sea, by Marc Chagall. They are Les Saltim Banques and Le Ciel de la Place de la Concorde. They are from Book 2 and are signed in pencil and numbered. I paid a little over $2,000 each for them.

My question is, upon coming home and researching some more, I see quite a variation in prices on his prints and don't know if I paid a fair price for these. The lithographs are beautifully framed and matted and I adore them, but am still confused.

The value of these offered on the internet seems to vary wildly.

Sincerely,
'

Answer
Valerie--I believe that Park West offers a free appraisal for the art they sell [one time only], so you should contact them.  The wildly varying prices are the result of mixing oranges and apples, ie, what some call a lithograph might be an offset reproduction, plus there are many bogus pieces out there.  Park West, to the best of my knowledge, sells good pieces.  They've been around since 1969.  And $2k for a signed & no. piece sounds like a bargain.  Alan Klevit.
