Fine Art/Graham Lavallin

I have several works by an English artist named Graham Lavallin, which gave to me around 1994 when he was living in Plymouth. He had previously run a studio/gallery in, I think, East Anglia. The works are wood block prints, though I know he also worked in acrylics and oil. I have not been in touch with him for several years but probably have an address if this would help.

Its an air-brushed acrylic by Plymouth Based Graham. I bought some of his original works 20 years ago when he vowed he would not never sell the rowing boat picture of which I have one of only a few signed prints. Sadly I lost contact with graham 7 years ago however I would be extremely intrested to learn how or why that picture turned up at an auction.

Graham Lavallin here again. To clear up some of the confusion on this thread. Jeff certainly purchased 2 original paintings from me when I lived in Plymouth and that would have been around 20 years ago. I believe at that time I still had a few Athena prints of a series of original airbrush/watercolour prints which I signed and gave to him.Jeff is absolutely correct when he says that I would never sell the original picture he calls 'Rowboat On A Lake' which is my first painting done in this medium, painted in 1980 and which was the first picture used by Athena International Publishing Co. in 1981 it was called 'Lakeland Calm' and I still have it to this day. The picture which Bob Lane calls 'Rowboat On A Lake' is probably the second picture of a series of 3 in similar vain which were used for publication by Athena International and was entitled 'Homeward Bound' which I sold at my first One Man Show at Dedham Hall. Essex in 1983. The buyer of this picture lived in Ireland and I assume this buyer may have at some point sold the picture on and it had found it's way to the auction house mentioned. The third picture in the series of three published by Athena was called'Cumberland Morning' and was purchased from my Gallery in Brightlingsea, Essex in, I believe 1988, by buyers from the Lake District if my memory serves me well.

I gave up painting in1993 to care for my disabled daughter and I have not painted since that time though I have a small collection of paintings from that period.

Hi again,

Just read the details of the Dunnings auction of 'Rowboat On A Lake' and I read that this lot was in fact a print and at size 20" x 32" would be one of the Athena Publications prints and is most likely 'Homeward Bound'.

I purchased a Graham Lavallin print .I was wondering if you could tell me the name of this one. It is a row boat on a shore in the early morning and has a small white cottage in the right hand corner,it is misty in the air.

Hi Sue,

Just spotted your question ... the title of this painting is 'Cumberland Morning' ... see also my earlier reply for reference.

Best regards ... Graham.

I have a print in my office that may actually be of the work in question.  It is Graham Lavallin, and shows a solitary figure rowing a boat across a serene lake with a colorful sky over a mountainous horizon for a background.  The title on this print is "Homeward Bound".  Hope that is helpful.

We have two original paintings by Graham Lavallin.  Both were painted in 1981.  One has two fishing boats in the foreground and appears to be at sunset or sunrise.  The other is a yacht moored on a lake by a castle with birds in flight at dusk.  Sadly I do not know the names of either painting.  We lost touch with Graham and his wife many years ago.

Currently looking to sell a large framed and double matted "Homeward Bound" in excellent condition. Not sure how to price it though. Is there anywhere to look at auction prices of this artist's work.

I have found a listing of a print that sold on but it does not give the date of the sale or the price.  Another site listed that a print had been sold online from Salvation Army for $8 I believe.  I have no idea what condition either of these were in nor did I check on the sale price of the one that was listed as sold through because it wanted to charge almost $30 for a one day pass to see the information.  Both of the prints were listed as being "Rowboat on a Lake" by Graham Lavallin but as per his explanation on a forum I believe the correct name is "Homeward Bound".  The second painting in a set of three that were painted for the Athena International Publishing Company in 1981 or 1982.  I would be interested to see how much it sells for as well as how many prints were sold of each of the three individual paintings.  I know that the Athena Co. made them into posters as well but my husband and I have a print of "Homeward Bound" that I fell in love with and had actually found at a thrift store in Tampa, FL.  Beautiful artwork!!!
