Fine Art/igor medvedev

First time buyer of a fine painting.  I have admired Igor Medvedev's work for a few years.  I have found an original painting that I like but the asking price is very high. I wonder if $7000 is an unreasonable final price on a 40x31 on board. Also, what is the drawback or  benefit of board versus canvas

Board vs Canvas. Depends on the Board. If it's masonite, it's brittle and can chip. Artists like the material because they can get a more detailed glossy look when laying down the paint. Canvas Board that is a hard cardboard like material covered in canvas can warp over time or if it's been sitting unframed for a while that can also cause warping. It's really a judgement call for the buyer. I prefer canvas stretched over stretcher bars, but if I really liked something and it was on board, I don't think that issue would stop me from buying it.

As for values, I am more of a Dali, Picasso, Chagall and Miro expert only becuase I have sold works by all of those artists.  I am not making a recommendation becasue I do not know the reputation of this gallery, but you might inquire with them,

I can answer questions about Salvador Dali. While I cannot do FREE APPRAISALS, I might be able to help you sell your works. I can also help with Chagall, Miro, Picasso and other 20th Century Masters.

Questions about a type of art or medium can be answered with one response in most cases. Technical issues are easier to deal with than specifics about an artist. If you need help finding values or history on an artist, it will probably involve research that can sometimes take hours to complete. If you have more than one image to send, I will give you an alternate email address as this system cannot handle multiple images.
