Question
I collect old oil paintings and want to research the artist, and possible the value, can you suggest a website for this. thx aj

Answer
Dear Andy, Any good reference sources for artists biographies and/ or prices is not free. For art reference books the best place is dealerschoicebooks.com
Best subsription sites: for American art would be askart.com, for all fine art would be artnet.com
Also you can contact Sotheby's auction and they will send you catalogues (by email) of their upcoming painting sales and prices realized (free).
Cordially,
Dan
