Subject: becomming a firefighter

Question
I was curious as to what my chances are at becomming a full time fire fighter right now i am 18 and going into my second and final year of school where i will recive an associates in Fire Science technology and i will have my EMTb license after i graduate i will be joinging the navy, do you think that i have a good chance at being hired.

Answer
Kevin,
Your EMT certification will get you some extra points in most jurisdictions. In addition, public departments are required by law to give you extra points for an honorable discharge from the Navy. Keep your record absolutely spotless and keep yourself in excellent physical condition and you will have a better than average chance of getting hired. If you really want to improve your chances. continue your EMS training and get paramedic certification. When you get out of the Navy check into joining a volunteer department near you which will allow you to obtain firefighter certification as well. Many departments award preference points for this as well. Good luck!
