Question Mr. Billington, I am fire I & II/EMT certified, and I have experience as working as an EMT. It is very hard getting on with a fire department, are there any fire departments that accept volunteers.
Answer Yes, volunteer FDs are everywhere, and most are also EMS providers and would be happy to have you. Also, being a volunteer is a good way to get valuable experience which will help you in your efforts if you intend to do it as a career. You should check with one of the larger FDs closest to you, or where you live. If they do not take volunteers at all, they should know the departments around them and in your area that do. Many agencies accept volunteers even if applicants live out of district, as long as the applicant is still relatively nearby, or especially if they have a volunteer duty program that does not require residency at all.
Make some phone calls and see what you can find. Good luck!
