Subject: Car Accidents and firefighter careers
Question I'm 23 years old and I've had 2 accidents the first involved another person, I caused the accident. The second I was on a dirt road and swerved to avoid hitting an animal and totaled my car on a telephone pole. Having these accidents can I still be a firefighter?
Answer Jennifer,
As long as you were not charged with a crime and you can obtain a valid driver's license in the state that you will work these incidents should have no effect on your eligibility. Make sure you disclose these incidents if asked on your application because they will be discovered on your background check and any dishonesty on your application WILL disqualify you. Good luck and be more careful!
