Lieut. and President. National Fire Academy Fire Officer II certified. Presently a Regional Manager for the Natl Fire Sprinkler Assn and a certified fire protection specialist and a certified code enforcement official in NY State.

Experience
Various awards and citations. My oddest "call" was at my company picnic, in a remote area, when someone at the picnic had heart failure. While trying to perform CPR I was also giving directions to ALS and BLS to get to the scene. Every alarm is an accomplishment.

Fire & Emergency Careers, And Fire Safety Info - Bourkes

Expert: Dominick G. Kasmauskas - 2/18/2009

Question
Do you know weather or not external goggles are still required on helmets with bourkes? I'm thinking about getting one and of course it has to be NFPA compliant per my department. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Usually in extrications, wildland fires and some warm zone haz mat incidents you will need "sealed" eye protection whereas a face-shield leaves too much open to allow ricocheting material from using tools or smoke and gases attacking your eyes in the wildland scenarios.

Hope this helps.

Dom.
