My oddest "call" was at my company picnic, in a remote area, when someone at the picnic had heart failure. While trying to perform CPR I was also giving directions to ALS and BLS to get to the scene.
Every alarm is an accomplishment.
Question hi, i am a British citizen and currently serving in the Armed Forces. I'm going to leave the army and have always wanted to join the British fire service at some time. Another ambition of mine is to live in America. So i was thinking why not see if i can do both at once and join the American fire service. This is the first time i have looked into this and was wondering:
a) If this possible
b) how would i go about starting off the process?
c) what qualifications would i need?
Any help you can give would be very much appreciated.
Answer Christopher~
Anything is possible, but competition is fierce.
If you can establish yourself and obtain your working papers, and if you have experience, it should not be a long or difficult road.
Keep in mind that there really is not "an American fire service"...each state has their own rules and regulations and many cities have their own rules also. It's more like 50 little countries with their own fire service laws.
There are national standards that are followed, but up to each state how and if they follow or use those standards.
Let me know if you need specifics and I'll see what I can find out.
