Question
Am curently working as a security guard for an american company in Iraq i really would like to join the fire department but am optimistic about opportunities for non US-citzens,ive got a drivers licence & am willing to learn & study all courses that can get me this job cause i love firefighting eversince i was alittle boy,my question is what opportunities do i stand to get this job?& if theres any how do i get started? thank you.

Answer
Isaac~
Most cities will have citizenship requirements. A place to start while in Iraq is with the US military bases that have firefighting operations supplied by Wackenhut http://www.wsihq.com/fire.asp . They may have a career path to help you come to the US and obtain your citizenship.

If you already have plans to come to the US, I would contact the Human Resources Manager (through the City Hall) of the city or cities you plan to live near. They will have the specifics for their requirements. Some jobs are through "civil service" and you would have to contact the individual State's civil service department that proctors the exams. You may be able to take the exam and physical test without citizenship, but then being hired may be still an issue.

I hope this helps and please feel free to write for further info any time.

Sincerely,
Dominick.
