First Aid - Finger Cut

Expert: Roger Eib - 10/20/2009

Question
Hi,

I accidently cut the inside of my "right hand pointing finger", while opening a tin. It was bleeding a lot.
I cleaned the wound with Spirit and cold water. Applied antiseptic cream and covered it with a wound cloth.
It didn't bleed after that. But I had a strange feeling in that finger, like when ever I touch the wound accidently, it felt like an electric shock. I used to redress the wound every evening.

After a week, the wound was almost 80% healed, but the electric shock feeling is still there, though not as severe as before. Also when I touch the top of the finger, it appears a bit hard.

I can bend my finger, feel it, there is no discoloration. What could be wrong? Do I need to see a doctor?

Answer
Aneesh,

It sounds like you may have had a nerve exposed that was causing the electrical shock feeling. You could see your doctor if you wanted, or you could wait and see if it gets better.Just look for infection such as redness and heat to the area or a thick yellow discharge from the wound.
