GOT A QUESTION ABOUT:
Basic needs for specific fish, illnesses, best tankmates, breeding, water chemistry, tricks to safely cut corners, and/or “stupid” questions? Maybe I can help! :)
I like to explain why you do things in aquariums (like why to use spring instead of distilled, or what pH numbers mean, ect.) so you understand why and not just taking someone’s word for it. I also like giving answers where you have two choices so you can choose which is best for the time and money you can commit to your fish. I understand how tight money can be and how expensive fish related things get.

I will NEVER leave you with an “I don’t know.” Ever. I hate that. That would waste your time and that's just mean. :)

Experience
I have had tropical fish since 1999. I currently have: a 55gal, ten 10gal, 3 five gallons, three 2gal, and a bunch of jars and bowls. At the time I'm typing this, I have: 14 angels, 13 goldfish, 73 bettas, 12 barbs, 5 catfish, too many guppies, 4 gouramis, 2 plecos, 10 loaches, bunch of swordtails, and probably a few others, lol.

I love to rescue fish. I've had everything from mutant danios, to one eyed goldfish, to my newest adoptee, a 2 year old betta with a MASSIVE tumor problem. He was brought to a pet shop and left there because the lady didn't know what to do with him. He's pretty scary looking. One of the guys at the store there I know let me have him. :D YAY! Elephant Man lives in a gallon bowl with pretty stones in my bathroom.

Plus!!!

I sell: veil, delta, halfmoon, plakat, and crowntail bettas as well as halfblack and blonde tuxedo fancy guppies. Ask me about it sometime.

Thanks for checking out my profile!

Question
I bought Harlo 2wks ago as a tank mate for my 3yr old goldfish Presley who suddenly became seriously ill and passed away 2days ago. His entire skin shed from head to tail and seemed to haemorrage over the 2days he suffered. Now Harlo is showing  signs of ailments. His dorsal fin and tail are no longer transparent instead they have these dirty grey blisters all over them. The entire fish looks filthy. His dorsal fin also appears to be deteriating in a threadlike appearance. He is very agitated, swimming frantically back and forth with flicking motions included.Although I have a 71litre tank,PH level7.0 with normal cold water from the tap . Harlo only spent 7days in the tank before I removed him back into the quarentine tank. Please note I did have him in quarentine for a few hours before introducing him into the main tank when I purchased him.I hope that Ive given You enough information to help give You a clear picture. Please help me a.s.a.p.I am desperate. Thank you. Hope to hear from you soon.P.s he also has a few missing scales.

Answer
What is your pH and how are your ammonia levels?

That sounds like a rapid bacterial infection. Start treating IMMEDIATELY with one of any of the following ingredients you can find. The best for this is at the top and so on:
Kanamycin (Also called Kanaplex)
Tetracycline (Also called Maracyn-TC)
Ethromycin (Also called E.M.)
Ampicillin
Amoxicillin
Trisulfa (Triple Sulfa)

I know Petsupermarket carries Maracyn TC and Trisulfa. Petsmart I think has Maracyn TC and EM too. Maybe Trisulfa too. Petco carries EM, Maracyn TC, and Trisulfa from what I remember. Make sure to take out your filter cartridge, if you use one. Don't change your temp too. Do you add salt to your tank?

I hope he make it. Bacterial infections that go that quickly are horrible to treat. :(
